The new village was far from secure. Disputes broke out when settlers demanded wood cutting and prospecting rights in the area. Finally, after much discussion between the federal government and the Anglican:Church, a 160-acre reserve was established in 1900.
Chief Isaac of the Han favoured the move. His daughter, Pat (Isaac) Lindgren, in a 1977 interview with the Yukon Indian News , recalled, "My Dad saw that they'd get civilized with the Gold Rush as he was afraid his people would learn bad habits from the white people, drinking and trouble like that.
